  Alexandre Yersin Memorial Sites was built to commemorate Alexandre Yersin who devoted 50 years of his life to working in Pasteur Institute. 
Alexandre Yersin (1863-1943) was born in Switzerland to a Swiss father and a French mother. He studied in Switzerland and later moved to France where he obtained a degree in medicine.
He traveled to Nha Trang for the first time in 1891. At the end of 1899, he came back and established the Pasteur Institute. He devoted 50 years of his life to microbiology, virology, and epidemic research and he was the one to develop a vaccine against the bubonic plague.
Living modestly, he gained the trust of Con hamlet villagers. He traveled in the mountains and recorded his observations. He also recommended to the government to establish a hill station in what is now Da Lat
Yersin died in Nha Trang on 1 March 1943. According to the instructions in his will, his body was buried with his face touching the ground and facing the sea so that he could forever embrace his second homeland.
To honor the memory of his tutelary genius, people dedicated a temple where burning candles and incense sticks. Note that in Vietnam, after the reconquest of independence, all the streets with French names were renamed except those bearing the name of this doctor original French Switzerland.
Conquistador of science, a tireless explorer, a symbol of generosity and philanthropy, a supporter of monastic life in the service of knowledge and people, Alexandre Yersin has become a legendary figure. In 1894 he identified in Hong Kong the plague bacillus (Yersinia Pestis).
He discovered the vacation site Dalat, Vietnam introduced the cultivation of rubber trees for rubber production, the cinchona tree to that of quinine used to treat malaria.
He created the Hanoi Medical School, and a Pasteur Institute in Nha Trang Pasteur Institute another. 
This doctor is known to Vietnam in 1890 by becoming a doctor Messageries Maritimes on the Saigon-Manila line.
The Lutetia opens in 1910. It will come there from 1910 to 1912, then he does not put the foot in Paris for seven years. He spends the entire First World War in Nha Trang. At 28, he became the first European to arrive on site. There it built a wooden house in the middle of nowhere, creates its research institute, brought in Saigon Pasteur, in Paris, as preparers locally.
